Jekyll Island Vacation

March 30 and 31, 2026

For Spring Break this year we decided to explore the Georgia Coast.  Since we had already visited the submarine museum at St. Mary's, and since we didnt want to take the trailer onto Cumberland Island, we began with Jekyll Island.

After checking in and setting up the trailer at the campsite in Jekyll Island, we drove to Brunswick to enjoy a beer and dinner.  We discovered Silver Bluff Brewing. They had some tasty beers.  From there we walked to a little park that had the first pot where Brunswick stew was cooked in.

The park also had a memorial to the sailors of the US merchant marine that lost their lives during World War II.

From there we ate at Tipsy McSways.  That was good food!

Tuesday Morning began with a paddle.  I paddled from the boat ramp to the Clam Creek Dock. That was 6 miles with some beautiful sites. Jekyll River was calm.  When I got into the intercoastal water way the current picked up seriously.

After the paddle, Denean and I walked over to Driftwood Beach.  This was an amazing place to see with all the dead trees.  Across the water you can see St Simons Island.

We then walked around the historic village looking at the old mansions of the elite of the early 1900's.

We met Angie and Wallace (Friends from Clemson) for drinks at the Beach House restaurant.  They had 25 beers on tap.

After drinks, Denean and I drove to St Andrews Beach to watch the Sunset.  There were clouds so the actual sunset didnt happen.  I did catch a picture of the pre sunset and that was enough.  Interesting historical fact about St Andrews Beach...This was the location where the last Slave ship (The Wanderer) unloaded its last slave cargo.  At the time the slave trade had been made illegal, so the transactions were unsanctioned.

From there we went to the dinner at the Irish restaurant. This ended a great day on Jekyll Island.
