This morning began with a search for a place to put in. We finally found spot at the south end of the fly park. From there it was a normal morning of avoiding barges. I made it to New Orleans.
Upon turning away from NO I started seeing ships at anchor awaiting space and transport. I saw 3 sets of ships awaiting at anchor.
As I turned southeast the wind kicked up fiercely. I was able to paddle far enough to feel a reduction in wind speed. This got me to the designated pull out location. Except what was in Google maps is not what was there. The high water erased all beaches, and the vegetation block access to the Levi. As I was paddling south looking for the next potential access point, a thunderstorm rolled in. I paddled near a chemical plant to have lightning hit the plant or the cranes. All the sudden it began pouring very heavily. I paddled into a covered barge unloading shelter and waited the storm out. Lightning hit very close several times! Denean tried to gain access in order to pick me up but the security peeps wouldn't. When the rain ceased I continued down River. Denean suggested a location that hasn't been in use for years. Finally I was able to get off the river er. This span does not easy access points.
While scanning the first location I spotted an alligator 10 feet away. I opted to paddle away hastily so no picture was obtained. 0 poisonous snakes, 2 alligators, 0 sharks.
While paddling on after the storm a ship passed rhat appeared different. This ship seemed to be carrying a co.plete distillery.
Overall it was not a good day. This part of the river has very limited river access.
Tomorrow I should arrive in Venice!
Good night all!
Distillery?
ReplyDeleteYou have knowledge of that and how? 😆
It looks like the Mississippi goes along past Pilottown? Is that near the end of the adventure?
ReplyDeleteBe safe. As you are aware that there is lots of marine traffic. I would recommend a place to eat in NewOrleans, but parking there really sucks.
