Today was full of interesting items. Firstly, for the first 2 hours I almost made 6 mph. Secondly, I passed the confluence of the Illinois and the Mississippi River.
Thirdly, I passed the shrine of the lady of the river.
Fourthly, I passed lock 26. The last lock I'll see on the Mississippi. Sadly they didn't let me lock through as they came up with the excuse that they had northbound and southbound barges waiting. So I carried around. I never saw any barges.
Fifthly I paddled through the convergence of the Missouri River and the Mississippi River. The Missouri was so fast the debris seemed to get stuck at the confluence line.
Lastly, I made it to the chain of rocks carry. The water seemed high enough to paddle through. But I didn't want to take a chance with my kayak.
My friend the eagle did make an appearance this afternoon. So the streak hold!
Amazingly enough, I'm 5 miles from 1/2 way. It's almost like a sprint from here on out.
Denean took me to Point Labadabie Brewery to celebrate. Great beer in Grey Summit!
