Mississippi River Trip Preparations
Training
My goal for being physically ready for the trip is to be able to paddle a 1/2 day non-stop. Using the idea that once I'm imbedded in the trip, I will naturally become more fit to the endurance of a whole day of paddling, and eventually a whole day of paddling at a fast pace while maintaining a low heart rate.
I had a few paddling sessions starting back in March consisting of 2 mile and 4 miles of paddling. But the training began in earnest in April. All the paddling was done in a lake with no current.
April 8 - 4 miles
April 9 - 5 miles
April 11 - 6 miles
April 12 - 8 miles
April 14 - 10 miles
April 15 - 10 miles
April 17 - 13 miles
April 18 - 11 miles
April 21 - 15 miles
April 23 - 18 miles
April 25 - 8 miles
April 27 - 10 miles
April 29 - 10 miles
May 1 - 11 miles
